I had so much fun today practicing Acro Yoga with new friends. Even as a newbie, I already love so much about it.. Firstly, the inevitable fumbling, laughing and playing that comes with this practice is a great stress reliever and a great way to develop in skill-building. Also, the physical expression of working together dynamically is something I value as a great way to practice certain inner attitudes such as: trust, responsibility, acceptance, allowing, giving, and receiving. Being massaged and stretched out while in the air is another highlight that adds to the good feelings that comes from Acro Yoga. Plus, connecting in an intimate and vulnerable way with another beautiful human being offers a sense of affinity, opening up to the oneness beyond ourselves.
Some might wonder where the actual yoga practice comes in, as it looks like acrobatics.. And my perspective is that indeed, people could do Acro Yoga with an entertaining and ego driven nature- just as one can with any asana pose. But when applying your consciousness to be fully present on the dynamic interplay, focusing an even and steady breath to flow with your partner and cultivating an inner attitude that is in alignment with the eight limbs of yoga, then you are in fact practicing yoga. We unite with our higher Self within the reflection of our partner, without a doubt, leading us towards liberation and enlightenment. After all, it’s practice for levitation!
